Includes Narragansett, Block Island, Newport, Westerly, and more. Surveyed by James Stevens, with additions and corrections by S.B. Cushing and H.F. Walling. The text at lower left discusses various things including time, tides, locations etc. At lower right are the results of the censuses from 1820, 1830, and 1840. Good condition. Restored: cleaned, deacidified, backed with heavy archival paper. Many cracks and tears are still visible, although they are all repaired, and give this map a beautiful antique appearance. Antique hand colored wall map of Norfolk County, Massachusetts, by Henry F. Walling, 1853. This map shows Norfolk County, including Cohasset, which is not attached to any other town in the county. This map also shows Boston before some of the fill, and with the old delineations of Roxbury. This also shows how Brookline was once connected to the rest of Norfolk county, although now it is not attached. Two inset maps show the Plan of Dedham Village and the Plan of the City of Roxbury. In this map, Roxbury consisted of areas that we now known as part of Boston. Very good condition, restored, rebacked and some cracking in the paper was repaired. Surface varnish was not removed because of very good original surface. Some tear repairs at the top. Original color. Original rods. Approx. 29.5 x 43 inches at its largest measurements. Includes Acushnet, Attleboro, Berkley, Dartmouth, Dighton, Easton, Fairhaven, Fall River, Freetown, Mansfield, New Bedford, North Attleborough, Norton, Raynham, Rehoboth, Seekonk, Somerset, Swansea, Taunton, and Westport. With inset maps showing village centers, a geological map of the county, lists of banks, businesses, manufacturers, distances, illustrations of prominent buildings, and more. Each property owner is labeled. Fair to good condition, unrestored, with some wrinkles, image loss, minor stains, fraying at edges, and tear at bottom. The large scale of 1.5 miles per inch allowed the representation of exquisite topographic detail, with symbols indicating hills, ponds, lakes and streams. Also shows extraordinary detail of cities, towns, roads, routes and railroads, significant landmarks, grist and saw mills, churches, schools, post offices, as well as public buildings and individual dwellings. With 9 insets, of Norwalk, New London, Bridgeport, Hartford, Norwich, Middleton, Waterbury, Norwich, Waterbury, Stamford, New Haven, and a listing of population statistics for Hartford, New Haven, New London, Fairfield, Litchfield, Windham, Middlesex, and Tolland counties.
